Karen (Haeng-A) Kim is a qualified TESOL teacher who has received a TESOL certificate from Georgetown University.
She is also an assessment specialist who was awarded a Professional Advanced Postgraduate Degree in Educational Assessment and a master’s degree in English Language Assessment from the University of Cambridge.
She is currently affiliated to Cambridge Language Science as a practitioner researcher.
Karen specializes in teaching academic English skills, especially TOEFL reading tests to university-level EFL students.
She has a record of the proven perfect scores in TOEFL Reading (30/30), IELTS Reading (9/9), and PTE Reading (90/90), and is a best-selling author in South Korea for her test preparation textbooks.
Karen has founded her online learning platform, Karenglish, where self-diagnostic assessments that she developed are used as a learning tool for students to identify their learning needs and to autonomously improve their academic English skills.
Karen is a keynote speaker who recently shared her EAP pedagogy at the international IATEFL Conference after winning the ETS TOEFL Scholarship for EAP teachers.
She also presented on a panel discussion at the virtual seminar for English Language Teachers, ETS seminar series for TOEFL Teachers hosted by ETS Global, and a TOEFL workshop for students hosted by the EFL Magazine.
Karen currently works for Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority in Australia as an external assessment assessor and a validator.
She also works with the Sunshine Coast Council doing her research on designing a dynamic assessment framework for literacy program tutors.
